Syria’s central city of Homs was under siege today as armoured vehicles moved through the streets and soldiers fired on residents.
The violence came as UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged the world community to take action on Syria.
Mr Ban delivered some of his strongest statements yet condemning the violence he says Syrian President Bashar Assad is perpetrating against his people during the five-month-old uprising.
Mr Ban said it was time for UN members to unite and take “coherent measures.”
The Syrian activist network known as The Local Co-ordination Committees said Homs residents were hiding in homes and offices to escape gunfire.
