Tsunami warning for Alaskan islands
A tsunami warning is in effect for parts of the Aleutian Islands of Alaska after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the ocean.
The US Geological Survey said the earthquake struck in the waters at about 6.55am Eastern Time, and there were no initial reports of injuries or damage.
The tsunami warning is in effect for coastal areas of Alaska from Unimak Pass to Amchitka Pass.
The areas are remote and not heavily populated, according to Jessica Sigala, geophysicist with the USGS in Golden, Colorado.
