Jersey suspect leaves hospital

A 30-year-old man arrested over the murders of three adults and three children in Jersey was released from hospital and into police custody tonight.

Detectives have been waiting to quiz Damian Rzeszowski, 30, about the massacre in the Channel Island’s capital St Helier on August 14.

He is believed to have repeatedly stabbed himself in the chest following the attacks, which left his 30-year-old wife Izabela Rzeszowska dead along with their children, Kinga, five, and two-year-old Kacper.

He is also thought to have murdered his wife’s father Marek Garstka, 56, and her friend Marta Dominika De La Haye, 34, and five-year-old daughter Julia Frances.

A spokesman for States of Jersey Police said: “The 30-year-old man, arrested in connection with the murder of three children and three adults in St Helier, has this evening been released from hospital into police detention.

“The man, who has been under police guard in hospital while subject to ongoing treatment for his injuries since the incident at Victoria Crescent, St Helier, on Sunday, August 14th, was declared well enough for discharge from hospital and, consequently, transferred to police detention.”
