Jersey stab victim 'had multiple wounds'

One of the two women killed in a knife rampage on Jersey died of multiple stab wounds, a post-mortem examination revealed.

Post-mortem tests on the other five victims will be carried out by a Home Office pathologist over the next few days.

The investigation into the murder of six people at a house in St Helier on the island continues today, as house-to-house inquiries get under way.

A 30-year-old man named locally as Damian Rzeszowski has been arrested and remains under police guard at Jersey General Hospital as police wait to question him over Sunday’s attacks.

His wife, named as Izabela Rzeszowski, is believed to be among the victims, along with her father, known only as Marek, her friend Marta de la Haye, and her own five-year-old daughter Julia.

Forensic examination of the scene was continuing today, with the States of Jersey Police Forensic team, supported by experts from the Devon & Cornwall force.

Family liaison officers are working with the two families involved in the incident, supported by Polish-speaking officers and staff.

Detective Superintendent Stewart Gull, who is leading the murder investigation, said: “This is an extremely complex investigation, involving two young families and, inevitably, impacting on a whole community, and our inquiry continues to establish exactly what happened on that fateful afternoon last weekend.

“We have had tremendous support from the local community, and I would renew our appeal to anyone who hasn’t already come forward, but may have useful information to help our inquiry, to contact us.”
