Man charged with murdering brothers protecting their home from rioters

A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a group of friends struck by a car in Birmingham as they protected their community from looters.

Haroon Jahan (aged 21) and brothers Shazad Ali (aged 30), and Abdul Musavir (aged 31), were hit by a car in the early hours of last Wednesday during rioting in the city. They were all pronounced dead in hospital.

Adam King (aged 23) of no fixed abode, appeared in front of a district judge at Birmingham Magistrates' Court for a brief hearing.

He was remanded into custody to appear at the city's crown court later, alongside co-defendants Joshua Donald (aged 26), and a 17-year-old male, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

All three are charged with three counts of murder.
