London mayor calls for police cuts rethink

London mayor Boris Johnson urged the British government today to reconsider plans to cut police numbers following widespread rioting across England.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4's 'Today' programme, he said: "This is not a time to think about making substantial cuts in police numbers."
