British person killed in polar-bear attack
A polar bear has killed one person and seriously injured four in an attack on a group of campers from a British group in the Arctic Svalbard archipelago.
A spokeswoman for the Svalbard governor’s office, Liv Asta Oedegaard, says she did not know the victims’ citizenship.
She said the attack happened this morning and the injured were taken to the hospital in the Svalbard capital Lonyearbyen, about 40 kms away.
No other information was immediately available.
