China train crash death toll rises to 23

China's state media has reported that the death toll from today's train crash has risen to at least 32.

No new figure for the number of injured was available, after an initial report of 89 hurt in the accident.

A bullet train lost power and was hit by another train. Two of the bullet train’s carriages plunged off a bridge after the crash.

The official Xinhua New Agency said four carriages on the second train also derailed but it did not say how serious that was.

The first train was travelling from the Zhejiang provincial capital of Hangzhou when the accident happened in Wenzhou city at about 8.30pm (12.30pm Irish time).
