UN warns of Somalia food crisis
The UN is warning of a food crisis in Somalia.
Mark Bowden, the UN humanitarian co-ordinator for Somalia, told a news conference that food costs in the African country have risen 270% over the last year because of drought and rising commodity prices worldwide.
Mr Bowden said this is creating a food crisis and leading to malnutrition, including among adults. He said pastoral people in southern Somalia are beginning to lose their cattle because of the drought.
