Libyan woman arrives in Romania after alleged rape by Gaddafi's troops

A Libyan woman who has said she was raped by Muammar Gaddafi’s troops, has arrived in Romania, the UN refugee agency has said.

Iman al-Obeidi, 29, arrived in Romania alone on a flight from Italy late on Sunday.

She is staying in a refugee transit centre in the western Romanian city of Timisoara where she can remain for up to six months.

Ms al-Obeidi’s sister has said she was on her way to the United States.

She made headlines in March when she rushed distraught into Tripoli’s Rixos Hotel, seeking to speak to foreign reporters and saying she was detained by a number of Gaddafi troops at a Tripoli checkpoint and raped.
