Christchurch rocked by quake aftershock

An aftershock has rattled buildings in the earthquake-ravaged city of Christchurch, New Zealand. No serious damage or injuries have been reported.

The US Geological Survey said the 5.5-magnitude quake struck today 14 miles west of Christchurch at a depth of just under two miles.

Christchurch has been rocked by scores of aftershocks since a devastating earthquake struck the city in February, killing 181 people.

The February quake was New Zealand’s most expensive natural disaster, costing an estimated $15bn (€8.4bn).

Today’s quake knocked items off store shelves, but officials say there have been no reports of serious damage or injuries.
