Lab work fails to show link between E.coli outbreak and vegetables

Scientific analysis has failed to show that contaminated vegetables are behind the deadly strain of

E.coli, which has so far killed 19 people.

According to the the EU's Reference Laboratory for E.coli in Rome, the results of tests do not support the hypothesis that contaminated vegetables were the source of the infection.

So far, more than 2,000 people have been infected in more than 12 countries.

So far, no incidents of the E.coli outbreak have been recorded in Ireland, but health officials here say it is only a matter of time, given travel between European countries.

Experts in Germany are also warning that although the rate of infection is slowing, more cases will arise.
