Mother on trial after autistic son's death
A mother accused of killing her severely autistic child stands trial for his murder today.
Yvonne Freaney 49, allegedly strangled her 11-year-old son at a hotel near Cardiff Airport, south Wales.
The body of Glen Freaney was found in a room at the Sky Plaza Hotel in May last year.
A Do Not Disturb sign was hanging on the door outside the room and mother and son were lying on the bed together inside.
Freaney had been living in a series of hotels at the time of the death.
After being charged with murder she was initially remanded to a clinic under the Mental Health Act.
The trial is taking place at Cardiff Crown Court in front of high court judge Mr Justice Wyn Williams.
