William and Kate arrive for Buckingham Palace reception

Prince William and Her Royal Highness Catherine Duchess of Cambridge are now husband and wife.

The new Royal couple have made their way to Buckingham Palace for the reception cheered on by thousands of well-wishers along the Mall in London.

The crowds watched as they smiled and waved and the couple held hands. Both smiled throughout the ceremony and seemed relaxed.

Prince William whispered under his breath to his bride as she joined him at the alter.

A lip-reading expert tells us he told her "you look lovely... you look beautiful", and joked "supposed to be a small family affair".

Outside, two anti-royal wedding protests were swooped on by police today as the ceremony got underway.

Scotland Yard beefed up its stop and search powers as a small group of masked anarchists gathered in Soho Square, central London.

Officers were also in Red Lion Square, where 70 protesters were counted.
