Double car bomb attack kills nine in Iraq

At least nine people, including five Iraqi soldiers, were killed when two car bombs exploded at a checkpoint outside Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone, Iraqi security officials said today.

Two policemen said 23 people were injured in the blasts, which happened just after 8am local time and set several nearby cars on fire.

The policemen said 13 soldiers were among the wounded.

An official at al-Yarmouk hospital confirmed the casualty figures.
