Thousands protest against president in Yemen

\Witnesses say thousands of people in southern Yemen took to the streets to demand that their president step down, and that police attacked the demonstrators with tear gas, batons and bullets.

Medical officials said at least 200 of the protesters in Taiz were treated today for fainting or breathing problems caused by tear gas. They said three protesters suffered minor injuries. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear of government reprisals.
