Merkel recovering after knee operation
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has had surgery on her knee and is recovering well, her spokesman says.
Steffen Seibert said on Twitter that Merkel had surgery on the meniscus, a cartilage pad inside the knee. He did not specify which knee.
Seibert says that Merkel is working from home for the day but will be at the opening of a trade fair in Hannover as planned on Sunday.
