Hundreds of tourists have been stranded on a resort island in southern Thailand after five days of rainstorms triggered widespread flooding.

The airport on Samui Island has suspended services indefinitely because roads surrounding it are flooded.

Hundreds of travellers, mostly foreigners, had to stay there last night.

Airports of Thailand said one other southern airport, Nakhon Si Thammarat, was also closed.

Several main roads in the south have been blocked by floods or landslides, and some bridges are damaged and unpassable.

More heavy rain is forecast for the next few days.
