A taxi driver has been charged with the murder of Sian O’Callaghan, police in Britain said today.

Christopher Halliwell, 47, who was arrested by officers in a swoop on a taxi rank in Swindon on Thursday, will appear before magistrates in the town tomorrow. He was charged with murder last night.

Miss O’Callaghan, a 22-year-old PA, disappeared from the Suju nightclub in Swindon, Wiltshire, last Saturday.

Her body was discovered close to the Uffington White Horse in Oxfordshire on Thursday.

Halliwell remains in police custody at Gablecross Police Station in Swindon.

Police officers and forensic experts continue to search a field in Gloucestershire where yesterday they found remains believed to be those of a woman killed between 2003 and 2005.

Her identity has yet to be revealed.
