Heavy shelling by Colonel Gaddafi's forces has forced dozens of opposition fighters to flee from rebel held territory this afternoon.

Heavy shelling by Colonel Gaddafi's forces has forced dozens of opposition fighters to flee from rebel held territory this afternoon.

State TV has said the town of Brega in eastern Libya has been "cleansed" of armed gangs.

A spokesman for the rebels said they are unable to cope with the bombardment and need help from the west.
