Mexico: 25 abandoned children found in border city
Authorities in the northern Mexican border city of Nuevo Laredo said today that they have found 25 abandoned children and are looking for their parents.
Local news media quoted a local rights activist as saying the parents may have been kidnapped, but the city council of Nuevo Laredo said it could not confirm that report.
The council said two of the children have already been turned over to relatives, while 23 others are in the custody of child welfare agencies in the city of Nuevo Laredo, across the border from Laredo, Texas.
The council has not specified the ages of the children. News media said they range from a few months to 10 years old.
The children were found on Monday in abandoned homes and in the streets.
