UK police sergeant faces rape charge

A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) sergeant has appeared in a British court charged with rape and misconduct in a public office.

Sergeant Peter Jee (aged 36) was charged yesterday in relation to the reported rape of a woman at a house in Rochdale, Lancs, last August.

He appeared before Salford Magistrates' Court on Thursday and was given bail to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, on February 17.

Jee is suspended from duty and tendered his resignation to GMP on January 14.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission managed an investigation by GMP's Professional Standards Branch into the matter.
