Snow closes Edinburgh and Gatwick airports

British travellers endured more misery today, with the wintry weather wrecking air and rail schedules and causing hazardous driving conditions.

British travellers endured more misery today, with the wintry weather wrecking air and rail schedules and causing hazardous driving conditions.

Edinburgh and Gatwick airports were closed and those trying to reach the continent by rail faced delays of up to an hour on Eurostar services.

Poor weather condition caused train disruption throughout Scotland, with ScotRail having to cancel a number of services.

Heavy snowfall also caused disruption to rail services throughout northern England, with a number of services in the Sheffield area unable to run.

Eurostar, which runs services between London and Paris and Brussels through the Channel Tunnel, was suffering delays of up to 60 minutes due to bad weather in south east England and northern France.

Edinburgh Airport closed until 6pm

Newcastle Airport reopened at 7.30am

Manchester Airport is open and taking diverted flights from Gatwick

Heathrow is open

Glasgow Airport is open and taking diverted flight from Edinburgh

East Midlands airport is open.
