UK sees 12% increase in hate crimes

More than 50,000 hate crimes were reported across the North, England and Wales last year.

More than 50,000 hate crimes were reported across the North, England and Wales last year.

The UK's Association of Chief Police Officers said the figures show a more than 12% rise from 2008.

There were more than 43,000 race-related crimes and almost 5,000 incidents motivated by a person's sexuality.
