Pirate suspects captured

The European Union’s anti-piracy naval force said it had caught 16 suspected Somali pirates in the past five days with the help of the Seychelles coastguard.

The EU force said the 16 were captured in two separate operations in the Indian Ocean last week.

The operation involved the EU providing aerial surveillance and the Seychelles coastguard making the arrests. The Seychelles government said one of the suspected pirates died from wounds received during a gun battle.Seven Seychellois fishermen were also rescued in the operation.
