Indian eunuchs get a bit extra

Nearly 300,000 eunuchs who make a living by begging on New Delhi streets are to get a monthly pension.

Jagdish Mamgain, a top official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, said the eunuchs, above 18, will receive 1,000 rupees (€16) each as a monthly pension in the Indian capital.

“Most eunuchs live in misery,” he said.

Eunuch is a term used in India to describe transvestites, post-operative transsexuals and hermaphrodites.
