Talks held to avert fresh Tube strike

Talks aimed at averting fresh strikes by London Underground workers were held today and are set to continue next week.

Leaders of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union met LU managers at the conciliation service Acas.

The Transport Salaried Staffs Association did not take part in the talks.

Members of the two unions have held three strikes in recent weeks in a row over job cuts.

Tube services returned to normal today after the latest walkout yesterday.

An Acas spokesman said: “Talks took place today between LU and the RMT. Talks are ongoing and we fully expect them to resume next week.”
