Missing Heathrow cashier suspected of stealing £120,000

Police in Britain were today hunting a bureau de change cashier suspected of disappearing with £120,000 (€136,000) in foreign currency.

Officers were called to a branch of Thomas Cook at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 after senior staff noticed the large sum was missing.

A new member of staff is suspected of taking the cash after being given a key to the safe a few days into his job.

Investigators visited his west London home after he failed to return from a lunch break but he could not be found.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Officers are investigating an allegation of theft.

“Police were called at 2.45pm on Tuesday to Thomas Cook at Heathrow Terminal 5 in Wayfarer Road.

“It is believed a large quantity of foreign currency was stolen from the location. Inquiries are ongoing. There have been no arrests.”

A Thomas Cook spokesman said: “We’re assisting police with their investigations and are unable to comment further at this time.”
