Search for bodies begins after Jamaican floods
Rescue crews in Jamaica dredged rivers and dug through debris and thick mud today to look for bodies as the number of dead continued to rise after Tropical Storm Nicole unleashed floods and mudslides.
Ronald Jackson of the emergency management office said six people were confirmed dead, and that another 15 were missing.
He said one body was found in Kingston and two in western Jamaica today, but they have not been identified and are not yet included in the official death toll.
About 300 people remain in shelters across the island, but the rain mostly subsided and schools, banks and government agencies opened today after remaining closed for two days.
Nearly 100,000 people remained without power and tens of thousands without water.
