Three killed as troops fire on mourners in Kashmir

Government forces today opened fire on a funeral procession and protesters in curfew-bound Indian-controlled Kashmir, killing three civilians and wounding at least 16 others, police said.

The killings took the death toll from three months of civil unrest against Indian rule to more than 100.

One civilian was shot dead in the town of Anantnag as mourners defied the curfew to take part in the funeral of a 17-year-old boy.

Troops later fired on hundreds of stone-throwing protesters in Palhalan, a village north of the capital Srinagar, killing two residents.
