French cabinet hits back at EU criticism of gypsies crackdown
French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s office today hit back at European Commission criticism of the country’s crackdown on gypsies, or Roma, saying some of the complaints were “unacceptable”.
EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding has said France’s expulsions of Roma to Eastern Europe are “a disgrace” and something she thought Europe would not have to witness again after World War Two.
