14 confirmed dead in Nepal plane crash

All 14 people on board a small passenger plane which crashed while flying to the Mount Everest region of Nepal were confirmed dead today.

They included a Briton, four Americans and a Japanese national.

Regional police chief Ram Bahadur Shrestha said the private Agni Air plane came down about 50 miles (80km) south of Katmandu yesterday.

It was flying to Lukla, a popular stop for trekkers and mountaineers, when bad weather forced it to turn back.

Agni Air said most of the dead were foreign tourists, including Briton Jeremy Taylor, Americans Irina Shekhets, Leuzi Cardoso, Heather Finch, and Kendra Fallon, 18, and Japanese passenger Yuki Hayashe.

Dr Pramod Shrestha said information provided by family members would be used to formally identify the victims.
