Baby girl for Camerons

British Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha announced the birth of their fourth child today – a baby girl born early and delivered by Caesarean section.

Mrs Cameron went into labour this morning and gave birth at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro at about midday.

The baby, weighing 6lb 1oz, had been due next month but took the Camerons by surprise while they were holidaying in Cornwall.

A Downing Street spokesman said: “The Prime Minister and Mrs Cameron are delighted to announce the birth of their fourth child, a baby girl.

“Both the baby – who was born weighing 6lb 1oz – and Mrs Cameron are doing very well.

“The PM and Mrs Cameron would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the hospital for their help and kindness.”

Mr and Mrs Cameron suffered tragedy last year when their elder son Ivan, who suffered from cerebral palsy and severe epilepsy, died aged six.

Their two other children are six-year-old Nancy and four-year-old Arthur Elwen.

The Tory leader hinted earlier this year that he wanted another child and news of his wife’s pregnancy emerged just a few weeks before the general election was called for May 6.

Mr Cameron had been expected to return to work next week after the family’s holiday, but he may now choose to take some paternity leave.
