'God Squad' car sticker lands priest in hot water

A US priest was warned by lawyers to get rid of door stickers on his car with the words “God Squad”.

Father Luke Strand at the Holy Family Parish in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin said he received a cease-and-desist letter from the electronics retailer Best Buy.

At issue is Fr Strand’s black Volkswagen Beetle with door stickers bearing the words “God Squad” in a logo similar to that of Best Buy’s Geek Squad, a group of electronics trouble-shooters.

Fr Strand told the Fond du Lac Reporter newspaper that the car is a creative way to spur discussion and bring his faith to others.

Best Buy told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that it appreciated what Fr Strand was trying to do, but it was bad precedent to let groups violate its trademarks.

Fr Strand mentioned the letter during Sunday Mass but said he can not discuss the issue further.
