Couple murdered in Pakistan 'honour killing'

Tributes were paid to a British couple murdered in Pakistan in a suspected “honour killing” over an arranged marriage.

Taxi driver Gul Wazir and his wife Begum, from Birmingham, were reportedly shot during a dispute over a planned marriage between the couple’s daughter and a man in Pakistan fell through.

Birmingham MP Khalid Mahmood referred to the double murder as an honour killing, warning: “If the child refuses the marriage it’s seen as an insult”.

One of the couple’s sons was reportedly wounded in the incident and taken to hospital.

It is understood Mr and Mrs Wazir have already been buried and the Foreign Office said it was providing consular assistance to the family.
