Soldiers killed in Turkey bomb blast

Three soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb explosion in south-eastern Turkey, according to reports.

The state-run Anatolia news agency reported that a remote-controlled bomb went off Sunday in Mardin province, which borders Syria.

Two of the soldiers died at the scene, while a third died in the hospital.

The military did not immediately confirm the deaths.

Kurdish rebels fighting for autonomy in Turkey’s south east often target Turkish military vehicles in roadside bomb attacks.

The guerrillas have dramatically stepped up their attacks since June, saying the government has rejected their calls for a dialogue.

The military says 22 soldiers and 49 rebels have been killed in fighting since June.
