Canadians flee flood danger

About 2,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in western Canada after a landslide triggered fears of a flood.

The slide created a dam 1,000 feet wide and one mile long in Meager Creek, near Pemberton, 155 miles north of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Several hours after the slide hit early on Friday morning, an evacuation alert was ordered because of the potential of a rapid leak or release from a lake that formed behind the dam area.

Regional emergency operations official Ryan Wainwright said today that it is too early to say when the evacuation order would be lifted.
