Jaycee Lee Dugard, the American woman who was held hostage by a known sex offender for almost 20 years, is set to receive $20m (€16m) in compensation.

She was kidnapped in 1991 at the age of 11 by Phillip Garrido.

He hid her in his back garden for 18 years, fathering two children with her.

The compensation has been recommended by California's Department of Justice.
