Thousands of ethnic Uzbek refugees camped on the Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan border are refusing to return to their homes, saying they fear for their lives.

After fleeing the ethnic violence which has left up to 2,000 people dead, the 400 thousand refugees are choosing to stay at the border saying they do not trust Kyrgyz authorities to protect them.

Soldiers were seen entering the border village of Suratash and trying to reassure the displaced population that it was safe to go home.
