Indian Ocean tsunami alert issued

A tsunami warning was issued when an earthquake measuring magnitude-7.5 was reported in the Indian Ocean west of India’s Nicobar Islands.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii initially issued a tsunami watch for the region, but later reduced the watch area to India only, then cancelled the warning. There were no reports of damage or injury.

The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at 8.26pm Irish time about 95 miles west of the Nicobar Islands at a depth of about 22 miles.
