Inquests open into deaths of Derrick Bird's victims

Inquests into the deaths of Derrick Bird’s 12 victims were opened and adjourned today.

David Roberts, the North and West Cumbria coroner, said initial post-mortem examinations revealed that all Bird’s victims died from “wounds from firearm”.

Some of the victims’ families were at Whitehaven Magistrates’ Court for the brief 15-minute hearing.
