Romanian workers set to strike

Unions said today that hundreds of thousands of Romanian public sector workers will go on strike next week to protest against sweeping wage cuts the government is making to reduce the budget deficit.

Cartel Alfa union leader Bogdan Hossu says some 700,000 doctors, medical staff, teachers and other public workers are expected to take part in the strike on Monday.
