Vince Cable is standing down as British Liberal Democrat Party deputy leader in order to concentrate on his role as Business Secretary in the UK government, it was announced.

Vince Cable is standing down as British Liberal Democrat Party deputy leader in order to concentrate on his role as Business Secretary in the UK government, it was announced.

In a letter to Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg, the Deputy British Prime Minister, he said last night: “In joining the Cabinet I have taken on many new challenges and responsibilities and it is right that I focus wholeheartedly on the job in hand.”

A successor will be elected by Lib Dem parliamentary party on June 9.
