Spain deaths: Children's father faces 13 sex-offence charges

Two children found dead yesterday in a hotel room in Spain were named today as Rebecca Smith, five, and her brother Daniel, aged 11 months.

British police said their father Martin Smith, 45, was brought back to the UK from Spain yesterday and appeared at Carlisle Magistrates' Court this morning to face 13 sexual offence charges.

Sources confirmed Smith was told about the deaths of the children last night.

He was extradited to Britain yesterday after being arrested on May 7 in Barcelona. He was one of Britain’s most-wanted men and was put on a list of most-wanted suspects thought to be hiding out in Spain by crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers.
