Dozens of insurgents killed in Afghan operations

Nato and Afghan troops killed more than three dozen insurgent fighters in operations in northern and eastern Afghanistan, Afghan police said today.

The two operations against suspected Taliban fighters came the day after US President Barack Obama expressed his support in Washington for visiting Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai.
