Brown bids to stay on as coalition PM
Gordon Brown began a bold bid today to stay in Downing Street as Prime Minister of a Labour-led coalition government in a hung parliament.
He told constituents at his Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath count: “The outcome of this country’s vote is not yet known, but my duty to the country, coming out of this election, is to play my part in Britain having a strong, stable and principled government, able to lead Britain into sustained economic recovery.”
