Offshore quake shakes Thai capital
The US Geological Survey said a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck off the southeast coast of Taiwan.
The agency said the quake hit at 10.59am local time (2.59am Irish time) today, 195 miles off the southern Taiwan city of Taitung.
Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau said no tsunami warning was issued.
Buildings swayed in Taipei, the capital, when the quake hit, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
