UK apologises for derogatory comments about Pope

Britain has apologised to the Vatican over internal Foreign Office documents suggesting the Pope should mark his visit here by blessing gay marriage and launching papal-branded condoms.

The Foreign Secretary David Miliband is said to be "appalled".
