Two dead as aircraft crashes in UK
Two people died today after a light aircraft crashed into a field near Andover in Britain, Hampshire Police said.
Police were called to the field close to the junction of the A303 and A342 near the village of Monxton shortly after 5.20pm.
“Police are currently looking to trace the location where the aircraft took off and to determine the identification of the people who died,” a police spokesman said.
An Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) spokesman said: ``The AAIB has sent investigators to the scene.''
A Hampshire police spokesman said: “It is too early to say whether ash was a factor but it will form part of the investigation.”
He said he understood light aircraft were allowed to fly at low altitude.
He said that the light aircraft had come down in an agricultural field without causing any damage to power cables or other structures and away from houses or farm buildings.
