Kercher killers 'could get tougher sentences'

Italian prosecutors want the convicted killers of British student Meredith Kercher to be given official life sentences.

They are appealing against the fixed terms given to American student Amanda Knox and her former Italian boyfriend.

Both were found guilty in the 2007 murder of Leeds University student Miss Kercher, 21, from Surrey in England.

Miss Kercher was stabbed to death in the flat in Perugia that she shared with Knox.

Knox, 22, was sentenced to 25 years in prison, while boyfriend Raffaelo Sollecito received 25 years.

Prosecutor Giuliano Mignini is seeking to increase the sentences to life in prison, his original request.
